Olivier Grenson

25 years of creation

To mark the start of the year of its 25th anniversary – which coincides with that of the Brussels-Capital region – the Belgian Comic Strip Center has chosen to honour comic strip author Olivier Grenson, whose works were also created in Brussels 25 years ago. Grenson’s work has evolved continuously ever since his first album, published in 1989. After Carland Cross (scenario Michel Oleffe) and while also writing his popular series Niklos Koda (scenario Jean Dufaux), Grenson has been increasingly trying his hand at a more adult œuvre published in prestigious collections: La femme-accident (scenario Denis Lapière) published by Aire Libre/Dupuis and more recently the two volumes of La douceur de l’enfer published by Signé/Le Lombard… his first really personal work. A true ambassador of popular culture, Olivier Grenson also teaches the art of the comic strip at ERG, a department of the Institut Saint-Luc and one of the most renowned higher education colleges in Brussels with a whole arts section devoted to the comic strip.

In counterpoint to the works of Olivier Grenson, accompanied by many original documents, the exhibition also proposes to follow in parallel the 25 years of the comic strip presence in Brussels and at the Belgian Comic Strip Center.
